This mezzuzah is for the bold of heart, proudly proclaiming the Jewishness of the home. It allows the scroll--encapsulated--to be read right through the outside of the mezzuzah. Richard Bitterman did a great deal of study before he made a mezzuzah with a revealed Torah portion. When he finally received assurance that it was allowed halachically, he chose to have a fine Kosher scroll hand-written by his scribe, with the emphasis on the beauty of the calligraphy as well as its perfection. We believe it may be the only handmade mezzuzah in the United States in which the passage from Deuteronomy used in all mezzuzah clafs can be read from the outside. Oh yes, and did we mention that apart from all this, it's a thing of beauty in and of itself? Richard Bitterman artwork is virtually maintenance free. It is coated with a long-lasting lacquer which eliminates the need to polish or even clean. For most items, a sweep with a dry cloth or soft brush will suffice. Candle wax may be removed with hot water, and thoroughly dried (a hair dryer works well.) Never, ever use chemicals or put Bitterman art object in a dishwasher.
